The Tzouhalem Spinners and Weavers Guild was formed 50 years ago.

The Tzouhalem Spinners and Weavers Guild was formed 50 years ago by a small group of Cowichan Valley weavers.  Eight women came together on November 22, 1973, to form the guild. They had a shared passion for weaving and spinning and wanted to create a place where others could gather to explore all things fibre related. Come join our 50th Anniversary Celebration!

Today the guild has 70+ members who weave, spin, knit, crotchet, felt, and create using fibre in all its forms. This anniversary year will be filled with special events, study groups, public demonstrations, and special posts on this page. We will add to the page as the year progresses so please check back to see what’s coming up.

Favourite Recipes

Guild members have enjoyed potluck lunches since the guild began meeting. In honour of the 20th anniversary of the guild members self-published a cookbook. The 1983 cookbook featured many of the member’s favourite recipes. During our 50th Anniversary Celebration, we would like to share some of these amazing recipes with you.

Local News Coverage from 1989

We are lucky to have local community newspapers that are great at covering events and groups in the Cowichan Valley. Here are a few articles written in 1989 highlighting the work of the guild. The photos are a real snapshot in time from 34 years ago but outreach and sharing our love of spinning and weaving remain a strength for our guild.
