Members of the Tzouhalem Spinners & Weavers Guild in Duncan, BC, have been sharing their passion for fibre since 1973. In its early days, the group met in the homes of its members. Once it outgrew those living rooms, the Guild moved into larger quarters; at one time the basement of City Hall was its home and the few books in its library could be carried in a suitcase! Now the Tzouhalem Guild meets twice a month in St. Peter’s Church Hall, 5800 Church Road, and two large cabinets house its reference materials.

The Guild’s annual dues are $35.

Our general meetings are held on the second Tuesday of most months (we take a break in July and August) from noon until 4pm. In addition to discussing any business, there is always show and tell of members projects. These projects reflect the members’ interest in several fibre arts: dyeing, felting, knitting, crocheting, bobbin lace, basketry and braiding as well as spinning and weaving. There may be a program or guest speaker. There are two potlucks, one in December and the other in June.

More informal gatherings take place in the evening (6 pm until 9 pm) on the fourth Tuesday of the month (September to May). This is a good time to socialize while spinning, knitting or doing some other handwork. If you need a hand getting a wheel to work, this is the perfect opportunity to ask others for help!

In addition to its library, the Guild has spinning and weaving equipment that members may borrow. Workshops are occasionally scheduled to introduce a new technique or expand on basic knowledge.
